Get to know Chairman Dirk Brown
Where did you grow up and what’s your favorite thing about living in South Carolina?
I grew up in Canada. My favorite thing about living in South Carolina is that the people are just as friendly and honest and hard-working as where I grew up, but the weather is way, way better!
What's something about you most people wouldn't know?
People see me as a data-driven, corporate executive, which is absolutely accurate. However, I’m also an escape artist and love adventure. Most people would not suspect that I’ve climbed Mount Fuji at night, so that I could watch the sunrise from the top; I’m a certified rescue scuba-diver and regularly dive in the Cayman Islands; and I have sailed throughout the Fiji Islands on a 47 foot sloop, among many other wonderful adventures.
What's your go-to cocktail?
A Manhattan – with Top-Shelf Bourbon and Three Cherries
Do you have a favorite band or artist?
I love music. I listen to everything from Opera, Mozart, and Cesaria Evora to The Grateful Dead, Metallica, and Ed Sheeran. Right now, I’m listening to a lot of indie music. I really like discovering and exploring new artists and songs.
What books are you currently reading?
I’m re-reading Zero to One by Peter Thiel. I’ve read it before, but I’m recapturing some of the important messages about “How to Build the Future” during this critical time for our world.
What three words best describe you?
Driven, loyal, and upbeat.
In one word, how do you feel about your company?
